A Screen Room in Auburndale That Became a Family’s Favorite Place to Relax

For one family in Auburndale, opening the back sliding door after sunset often meant letting in more than fresh air. Mosquitoes, flies, and frogs seemed to be waiting for their chance to rush inside. After years of dealing with those unwanted visitors, the family was ready for a change.

They had talked about adding a screen room for a long time. There was space in the backyard they weren’t using, and enclosing it would give them a place to enjoy the outdoors while creating a barrier between their back door and the pests. What started as a practical solution has become one of their favorite places to spend time.

The family contacted MD Construction to explore the options for their home. Their goal was simple: make better use of the backyard and enjoy being outside without constantly dealing with bugs.

With a design chosen, the space they had imagined for years began to take shape. A covered screen room provided shade and a barrier against pests, turning an underused part of the backyard into a comfortable extension of their home.

They also had electrical added for fans and a television. Those additions helped make the porch a place where they could settle in and spend an evening.

Construction took place over six visits, beginning with grass removal and footing installation. Next came the concrete pour, followed by the initial concrete paint and texture application. The screen room installation, electrical work, and final coat of concrete paint completed the space.

Three city inspections took place along the way, giving the family added peace of mind as the project progressed. Their construction process took seven weeks from start to finish.

They also had electrical added for fans and a television, making the room a place they could comfortably settle into for an evening.

The family chose MD Construction’s optional electrical package, and it’s one addition they’re glad they included. The team installed an outlet for their television, ran electrical for the fans, and installed the fans themselves, helping turn the screen room into a space they could comfortably enjoy for hours.

With fans circulating the air and their favorite shows on the television, the family has even more reasons to spend evenings on the porch. From watching football to settling in for a show after work, those added conveniences have become part of how they use the room every day.

There’s still plenty of time to switch off the television and simply listen to the rain. But having electrical in place gives them options, and for this family, it was well worth including.

For homeowners planning a screen room, it’s worth thinking about how they’ll use the space beyond a place to sit. Ask MD Construction about adding an electrical package for fans, a television, and the everyday comforts that make the porch feel like part of the home.
